Elva enlisted on 1 Dec 1941 aged 19 years as a clerk. Initial training was completed at Bankstown, then Elva was posted to 2 Aircraft Depot RAAF Richmond on 19 Jan 1942 She moved to 2 Embarkation Depot at Bradfield Park on 25 Feb 1942, and was promoted to CPL on 1 Sep 1942 and SGT on 1 Aug 1943. On 11 Mar 1944 Elva was posted to HQ North Eastern Area at Townsville until 28 Aug 1944 when she went back to Sydney to 3 STT (School of Technical Training) at Ultimo as Staff. On 25 June 1945 she was posted to RAAF HQ at Point Piper, then discharging on 17 Jan 1946. Elva’s sister Nola also served in the WAAAF Elva married 73254 LAC Russell Raymond Snow RAAF at Goulburn in 1947.
